This past weekend, our ladies won the Wisconsin Association of Christian Schools (WACS) state volleyball tournament. It was the first volleyball championship in Bay City history!

Seeded 4th, the team did a fantastic job of overcoming the highs and lows of competing against three great teams including the 1st and 2nd ranked teams. In the championship match, the Bobcats won the first two games (25-20, 25-16) only to see the perennial champions, Maranatha Baptist Academy, fight back to win the next two (15-25, 22-25). In a thrilling 5th game, the teams were locked at 12-12 when Morgan Pagel stepped up to serve. Her 3 straight service points were capped by a Charity Abts’ block for the final point and the exciting victory!

Olivia Fugate finished with 14 aces and 14 kills provided the team’s energy throughout the tournament, Charity had 23 kills while dominating the net, and Sophia Dervish served perfectly (44 for 44) in the three matches. Olivia and Charity were nominated to the All-Tournament Team, while Sophia was voted to the All-State Team earning her third consecutive state honor.

Most importantly, the girls evidenced great sportsmanship and were a good testimony. Way to go girls! The WACS tournament was hosted this year by our church, right here in Green Bay.
