Bay City Baptist Church will hold a Thanksgiving praise and testimony service on Tuesday, November 24 at 6:30 p.m. This will be a special time to gather and thank the Lord for His provisions. What a perfect way to begin the Thanksgiving holidays!
Doesn’t it seem that the perception of Thanksgiving has been skewed? We’ve forgotten the reason for celebration that first Thanksgiving years ago — it was gratitude for survival! It now seems to be all about the turkey and the food. Or for many people it’s about standing in long lines all day to get a good buy. However EVERY DAY should be Thanksgiving, especially for Christians.
Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations (Psalm 100:3-5).
We should take time to truly thank God for all our blessings, even the struggles He has brought us through. We must take time to focus on Him and not on ourselves. It’s interesting that during the seasons when we celebrate gratitude and the birth of Christ, that our lives get the busiest. We often over-extend ourselves with schedules and shopping lists leaving us with extreme stress and time seems to slip out of our grasps. This is actually the perfect time to stop all activities, spend time with God and reflect upon His love and provisions for us.
