Happy New Year from Bay City Baptist Church! There’s always something fresh and clean about turning the calendar page to a new year. It’s a chance to turn a new leaf and start the year off right, right?! Well, there really isn’t anything different from December 31 and January 1. There’s no magic eraser that wipes away the old and provides a clean slate for the new. Thankfully God forgives! He wants us to break bad habits and start good ones. But for the right reasons…
Unless your motive is pure, and unless you’re seeking God’s daily help, it’s likely to fail. God must be at the center of it. For instance, if losing weight is your resolution, is it your vanity drives you? Do you want to feel better about yourself? If that is the case, then God may not be at the center of your resolution and He isn’t likely to help you with your selfish drives.
Even resolutions like praying more, reading the Bible more, and becoming more active in the ministry can stem from impure motives. These are great goals, but not if your motive is wrong. Are you looking to fulfill those goals because you want to honor God and walk with Him or because it is what a good Christian should do?
Take time to pray and seek God’s direction for you in the coming year. Don’t be satisfied with the person you were in 2015. God wants you to grow in Him with each passing day. Let Him be the Writer of your resolutions! Happy New Year!
